Diabetes And Steroids

Hello all,

I haven't been on the board for a while. I hope all of you are doing well.
I have a question. My A1C has been hovering around 5.6-6.0 for about 2 years now. I noticed that when my diet is good it's closer to 5.6 and when my diet is not on point it's between 5.9 and 6.0. Recently I came off PCT and got blood work, my total test was good, 598 ng (keep in mind Im 46 years old), my estrogen was good 33. My A1C was 6.0 but my diet has sucked.

My doctor knows Im on steroids and is totally against it and lectures me all the time. This time he suggested that he believes my A1C being high is due to steroid use. I have done some reading online and most of what I see is the opposite, low test causes diabetes but abusive steroid use can cause diabetes as well.

I dont consider myself an abuser, most of my cycles are about 12 weeks, with 5-6 weeks of PCT and then Im off as long as Im on.

My question is, can steroids cause diabetes. Do any of you have high A1C?

Im planning on taking bloods again, right before I go back on another cycle.

There is absolutely no link to diabetes with steroid use whatsoever. Diabetes unfortunately is often a genetic thing, which obviously is also impacted by diet. I think that is where you need to be putting your focus and concentration brother.

There was a fairly great bodybuilder named tim belknap who was a severe diabetic on insulin x2/day. He took his knowledge and used insulin in his aas protocol. He kind of pioneered the use of insulin in bodybuilding. Maybe you could read up on him

Man. That shows our age when i too kno who tim is. Lol.
Your dr is gunna blame it on the aas use no matter what. If you had a brain tumor hed blame it on your steroid use! Most primary doctors dont kno shit about steroids because all they are taught is to push prescription drugs on patients.

jm I hate to say but you are so right on. Bad commentary on the state of docs. First thing when they brought jake to the ER was that his BF was under 10%. Fucking azzhole docs freaking over it. I told the 2 er docs that jake could crack both of them right over his knee like a twig and finally got their attention. Big pharm...the legal drug pusher...will get you addicted quickly.

I loved Tim Belknap! Total mass! He had the Tom Platz legs!

I too have high a1c. My a1c crept up to 6.4 about a year and a half ago. I got on TRT to get it down. It now hovers between 5.7 and 6.0 now. One thing I've noticed is when I use compounds that lowers SHBG like Proviron, or LGD, my A1c we will go up. So lowering SHBG will definitely have an effect on your a1c. But your doc is wrong, increasing your testosterone levels absolutely helps your blood sugar!

Get on Metformin right away too! Google the wonders of Metformin! It's a very safe and tolerable drug and has much more benefits then just controlling sugar in your body. A very cheap drug that's been around forever.

I actually wanted to use Metformin a while ago when I first got diagnosed with 5.7 A1C and after 7 weeks of taking it it went up to 6.0! So I stopped. Now my doctor is thinking about putting me on it after my next set of bloods.

Definitely hereditary. I don't fit the typical diabetes profile if you read about it online. I'm not overweight I'm 6 foot 3 225 very very lean. In my case I'm blaming 15 years of using statins got me to the pre diabetes stage. If you look up the use of Lipitor, it can put you into pre diabetes after long-term use. So that's my theory right now. I try to limit carbs, pretty much just eat meat with greens. So steak and salad chicken and vegetables chicken and broccoli etc. No rice no potatoes no pasta. No buns, no bread.
