is it that the smaller guy is just not eating as much?
Look, steroids are not some sot of magic dust! You can not expect two people to react the same! You have to have some goal in mind and make your diet, training and excersise fit into this appropriately!! Some people want bulk size, others just to be in better shape. Figure out what you long term desire is before you start. What is this you are trying to do? And then as far as you can without taking anything except maybe for sarms, then consider moving up. Let me give you example, ok?
Am in my 50s. Years ago from bad accident I was in hit by two cars, I ended up broken in more than 200 places. Physical therapy was hard, but I got through it. I was not expected to live and was put on social security disability, who now wants all $35,000 back because I did not die like I was supposed to. I began training and doing cardio a little at a time because am full of more screws, pins and metal plates in me than old Pontiac. It took a year to move though physical therapy and learn how to walk up a row of stairs again.
Once I gained a decent amount of weight back, about 75 kilogrammes (165 lbs. for Americans) I began working out harder and spent the next two years taking supplements, vitamins, changing my diet and pushing a bit harder. I did not train for bulk, just energy and lasting stamina, but keep in mind everything was totally fucked up, sex drive, bone structure, muscle losing, you name it. Getting through that was hard. Most will not go though this, not as much as I have been through.
When I had gone about as far as can go, I moved on into what am doing now for workout therapy. I began a new career in medical profession to help those like me stay off disability and get control of their life back and not get burned like I was just trying to recover. My plans is to continue strength training and add muscle because I will work 12 hour a day and being medical professional is hard and demanding on your body, your head and emotions. It is of great benefit to be in best condition possible since I will need all the help I can get for a 20 year career in this field. I have no plan now for being a bodybuilder in competition.
This may be bit drawn out, but you see where am going?? This is not ”Hei, I just take a magic pill and be Român Godlike in 6 months.” Have a plan, 2 years, 5 years, or more down the road and remember, 1. More is not always better, in fact the opposite happens. 2. Fitness and physical condition is lifetime commitment and not short term goal! You need to make it a priority in you life to be fit and healthy right into old age or not even start a progamme at all!! Get your diet and what you eat in line with your goals and avoid process sugar as much as you can-switch to honey instead for sweeteners. watch alcohol drinking, whiskey and Vodcă ae fun, but destroy fitness gainzzzz fast! Get bloodwork done and understand what your lab results mean.
Here is good post from 44 about this:

Dylan Gemelli made a videos about importance of getting labs and using them to keep track of you health and progress:

This is much like being married. If you are not prepare to go the distance, then wait until you feel sure. Otherwise is waste of time and money and you will wish you never tie this knot in the fist place. And your competition? He is that dude looking back at you in mirror!
