you gotta do legs

I used to train heavy on squats and deads. The most I've reached was 425 x 2 on squats and deads 1RM @ 475. After that I was pretty much done with lower body workouts. I'll work them out probably once in a blue moon but I don't hit them anymore because I don't care for them. I'm not a competitive body builder...
I like walking up the stairs in my house and I like being able to walk down them without having to hold on to my dear life on the rail & I like being able to wear pants that aren't tight around my thighs which is super uncomfortable plus it's nice having space for my TESTICLES.

Try walking thru Disney world or anywhere for a while with those hard worked massive quads and tell me u don't leave with a nasty red baby rash...I do try to train calves since they're pretty much out there when wearing shorts though. With that being said I focus mostly on upper body & calves. No hammies or quads. Fuck that.

I have to admit that walking around limping all the time does suck and get old fast. However, I do like to hit my legs hard, and I like a proportionate physique. In the end it all comes down to what you want as an individual. I don't have any hate on people that don't train legs. It's their body to do with as they please, even if it isn't my cup of tea

Legs e3d... front and back squats, stiff and traditional deads, ham curls and leg extensions, I do a lot of barbell lunges and very little calf work. My calves are literally almost as big as my quads.... are at least it looks that way. I do it all now. Worked my way back into squats and deads. Im happy with my legs but id like some more size of course

I don't do deads very often and I rarely squat. However that doesn't mean I don't train legs. I see what you're getting at but some people might say the same thing about you doing nothing but deads and squats ya know? You have to work all muscle groups OBVIOUSLY but to say you must do deads and squats or you won't get big is false. You also won't get as big as you can from deads and squats only. That leaves a lot untrained. All arguments aside bodybuilding is the pursuit of big muscles and an aesthetic physique which is a very different kind of training than a powerlifting or crossfit type of training. But in the end benching more than you can squat does seem nuts and ridiculous. I would never allow myself to be that way again. I was once there when I was a rookie.

Same here but training legs isnt all its about u have to train wvery muscle equally. Thats my philosphy.

Of course. That's just common sense. I don't know why anyone would think differently. To be too heavy or bottom heavy due to over training of one or the other is silly to me.

Big bros...you are deviating from what I was trying to say. I stand by the fact that guys who want to get big as possible should do heavy as possible deads and squats as well as other power moves. I know there are exceptions but the bottom line is that we have all done them. If you have injury then sure. I stand by that if you do not do ALL major muscle groups then you will not be as big as possible. It takes legs to have upper.Core!

Tom platz comes to mind... although im by no means talking shit. Respect the shit outta that dudes intensity and physique, but he was the epitome of bottom heavy. Wouldnt want those monstrous legs on me unless the rest of me was equally monstrous. Aesthetics above everything

well said my bro. If anyone does not know about tom platz and as he was called...Mr Legs..he did legs first and said everything else he had came as a result of leg training.

I squat heavy 3 time a week but almost never do romanian deads lots of stiff leg deads on back day usually super set them with bent over rows but that hits my hams and glutes perfectly see no reason too do traditional deads .

I'm a big fan of heavy deads and squats. One day I'm sure it'll catch up to me... Everything has it's place in training and there will always be factors dependant on each individual that impact how it's approached.

As I posted in my introduction I do not use weights except for squats and deadlifts. The rest of my training is weighted calisthenics. I am seeing more and more of guys going very heavy low rep bench presses, and less squats and deadlifts.

Do these guys realize that to get big and muscular requires hard leg training? If you leave out these power leg movements you will not grow.
And what is the deal with benching 500lbs one rep? I don't get these guys.
No disrespect, but absolutely nothing about squats and deads are going to bring up my lagging chest and tri's. I love my front squats, heavy deads 3x a week, and high rep leg presses. But they don't do shit for my arms except
Maybe deadlifts cause I go really heavy on them. Ever since I stopped doing heavy bench after hurting my shoulder one time, my triceps have never looked the same. Biceps still huge and lower chest but the entire arm looks smaller and upper chest lags now. I always hit legs harder than ever but not until I Stopped benching HEAVY my arms stopped growing so fast. I normally do my curls in the squat rack just for fun. Now I just got some big ass biceps lol, girls like them but it effects my ego in the mirror cause to me they look smaller now. High reps are my philosophy but you still gotta go heavy even on arms. Just ask Ronnie Coleman.

These schmucks are in every gym. They're not body builders..they never last long no way. Usually 3 years max n they disappear..until training becomes a lifestyle you'll never get them to do legs...these guys main motivation is the opposite sex. They're not it it for the artwork of body, health, self improvement, self challenge n many other things that motivate a life long member of this life
You're right I could care less about BB. I powerlift, tons of heavy singles, doubles and triples in Pl programing. But the again we do volume too.

I understand what you're saying. You can't build a strong, heavy mansion upon a tiny, weak foundation. But in a sense that bodybuilders DO use powerlifting moves, it doesn't make anyone a schmuck or useless if they perform extreme amounts of weight for a few reps. My goal this year is 700lbs for 1 or 2 reps deadlifts. But I'm a bodybuilder. Ronnie Coleman started as a powerlifter and became the world's GREATEST bodybuilder. Those 800lb squats built that true density. I enjoy the best of both worlds.

I am a bodybuilder who powerlifts.

I completely agree but I still train powerlifting style even though I am now lean and not competing anymore. I love heavy squats deads and benches.

When you consistently do power moves...all of them ,then you create an anabolic environment in your body. Your physiology changes because your body knows that it has to change to live. It is not that Mr XYZ HAS to do power moves, but it will be favorable to all over growth, or maybe I should say overall growth. This is especially true for beginners and guys in their 20's. It is not that it cannot be done without power moves...it can. When you are looking for every edge possible then it would be wise if you can, to do power moves, upper and lower.

Now older guys.By older I mean 40+, then I advise that you no longer do these moves. This is the age when your tendons are getting tired, and injury is right around the corner unless you become wise and use common sense. At this age you work for form, control, and mind/weight awareness. Now you work slowly and methodically and heavy enough so that you feel that it is heavy, but you know that you can do it without injury.

Funny how guys with torn rotator cuffs, elbow pain, fucked up pecs, will still smash chest days 2x a week. But a little knee or back pain and they throw squats out of the window. Proper squat motion is actualy HEALTHY for the body because it keeps it aligned and stablizes your core.
