something not very well known is that low iron can cause restless leg syndrome. i had no idea and couldn't sleep, my mom (a nurse) instantly told me my grandpa had the same issue. grabbed some iron and i was good to go. started looking it up and there is some info on it out there.
 
Low iron / anemia totally wrecks your ability to function on so many levels... definite concern to any athlete regardless of training goals.
