I'm an aircraft mechanic and work from 6am - 2:30pm and I get to the gym @ 3pm. I eat a PWO meal or snack @ 2pm. The thing is most of the time I have to eat at my toolbox and don't really get a break at this time. I'm currently eating 2 Nature Valley granola bars and it has around 400 calories but too much sugar at 22g in my opinion. My backpack is a cooler so refrigeration is not a problem but I don't have access to a microwave at this time. I can't really look like I'm having a 5 course meal at my toolbox either so I'm asking for suggestions?

I've considered a protein shake but that's really for post workout...

Sandwiches are easier to eat and packed full of all the macros you need. Carbs, fats, protein, fiber and sodium

I usually don't eat before bc mine is at 5 am, but I would say greek yogurt with granola or maybe a pnut butter and honey samich on wheat

You could always do a beefed up protein shake like you said if you have your cooler backpack

1 scoop of whey
1/3 cup egg whites
50 grams oat powder
50 grams PB2 peanut butter powder
20 ounces of unsweetened cashew milk

Thanks everyone for suggestions... Lots of great ideas here. I really do appreciate it.

I think shakes are useful before and after. It's better to have liquid IMO before so you're not devoting so much energy to digestion. Plus you won't feel too full

I personally train early mornings before work on an empty stomach and have great workouts. I suggest you give it a try and see how you like it man would work nicely with your schedule as it would give you a nice boost of energy throughout the day and allow you to go home and rest after a long days work.

This is what I do usually. No way I could ever train with high intensity on a stomach full of food. Liquid is easy and I can hit the gym hard shortly after consuming it.

I used to do some shredded chicken with cayenne pepper mixed into a small bowl of plain mashed red potato.

Then TNE, not always but sometimes.
