Your body will not go into starvation mode, and contrary to what a lot out there will tell you, breakfast is not required to kickstart your metabolism. I did intermittent fasting for 3 years where my first meal wasn't until noon each day and I only ate until 8 PM fasting for the next 16 hours. I got into the best and most shredded shape of my life, including entering a contest.

Structure your meals and macros to what best fits your current goals, diet, and schedule

What would your typical breakfast look like? How much water are you taking in per day. Be honest. Everyone says a gallon.

This right here. Don't fall for the bro science. I've been intermittent fasting for months now and I'm getting the best results I've ever had.

I've always here that you need to eat breakfast right after you wake up to kickstart your metabolism they drilled that into my head, just didn't known if that was true or not, just wanted to verify that, I'm not always hungry when I wake up lol

Normally 2 eggs and a slice of low sodium ham, or just a protein shake. For my water I do drink a lot of water I have my water jug its probably half a gallon that I fill up twice a day and then some..

Not eating right away when u feel hungry forces your body to search for nutrients. IE fat

PHURIOUS PHARMA

there's truth to a lot of what is said and there are certain things that work both ways... it does help jumpstart your metabolism to eat in the morning but you also can do IF with strong results... just remember the term "breakf fast" is intended to define "breaking a fast" which is what you are doing while you are sleeping... so if you are not using IF, then when you wake up, the best thing to do is have something like a hot tea or coffee along with something lighter or filled with fiber... think a grapefruit for example... or even oats etc... i start my day with a hot green tea and a grapfruit or apple with greek yogurt... and hour or two later i have either ezekiel cereal or oat and wheat bran.. what i've done here is have an extremely health, light but very filling two meals that are fiber rich with my cleaner carbs to keep me very alert, very light and feeling very satiated etc... the caffeine from the tea along with the cleaner carbs really push me along... then i have a meat dish like chicken or pork loin and vegetables or mainly my tuna and vegetable lettuce wraps... then i am never overreating, getting all the right nutrients at the desired times and eating very low calorie but high protein and getting clean carbs etc... its all about timing, balance etc...

Rick, for 16/8 IF can you set the 8 hour feeding period for any 8 hours? I ask because within 30 minutes after waking in the morning I have a protein shake with oats as my pre-workout, another immediately upon finishing in the gym, and a real food meal within 2 hours of that. So can my 8 hour feeding period be from say, 3am-11am? Or should I not worry about my pre/post WO shakes and morning meal and just hit the gym fasted and eat during the typical 12-8pm IF feeding period?

Im not commenting on IF, ill leave that to rick... I personally love the morning oats but have you thought about ditching the first protein shake since your having another right after? Perhaps a substitute?

Yes, the 8 hour feeding window can be at any time that works best for you. Also keep on mind that workouts do not have to fall within that window. For example, even though I did a noon to 8PM feed, I worked out at 6 AM everyday fasted. I did drink BCAAs before working out, after workout, and every two hours until breaking fast (which I highly recommend) to keep protein synthesis working during the fast

Excellent, thanks Rick! I already do the BCAA's/Glutamine/ALCAR pre/during/post WO, and throughout the entire waking day, so that's GTG.

I can ditch the protein pre WO, but can I keep the oats? And what would you rec for a sub?

I always love hitting the gym 0430 0r 0500 fasted and then choke down protein shake (never feel like eating or drinking protein after a workout) but I have to do it on the way home from the gym. It has always worked for me to workout in the am versus pm. Just hate burping up lunch if I workout in the afternoons.
However when my old lady goes with me she sometimes has to eat during a workout due to hypoglycemia, but I aint waiting for her to eat fuckin breakfast my workout my rules. she better pack a lunch or some shit,

she gon' learn today

I eat breakfast when I get hungry. The time always varies. I do always have a quart of iced tea. Sometimes it is just a harboiled egg. I do not think it is so important, and certainly can be something light.I just stay away from carbs in the morning. Jst eggs are fine with me and maybe an apple.

ya mine varies too after the protein this morning at 0630 I had 3 boiled eggs about 0930, handful of nuts about 1030. no lunch yet...well a dip or 2 of some Copenhagen was lunch so far lol

No problem brother! Anytime!

A high carb breakfast can supposedly help spring board metabolism supposedly. I don't think breakfast in general does.

I did IF for almost two years. Although I don't run such a tight window any longer, I pretty much eat when I'm hungry. I eat big if I want or small if I don't and it usually doesn't start until later in the day.
