Been a problem for years- non steroids related. Tried all the home remedies from warm milk to no caffeine..nothing works..anyway last few weeks it's gotten worse to the point that I take something every night. I rotate, xanax one night, melatonin the next, unisom gel cap the next.none really do anything but relax me but dosent put me to sleep. So I'm tired of it now and probably going to the Dr to get a prescription sleep pill. There's a few options. Anyone here use any? What kind? Pros/cons?

try the sleep genius app. Script sleep meds are terrible and addicting

put it like this, my dad had a script for several script sleep meds so i tried some and started hallucinating no BS. give it i did take more than the recommended dosage, lol

I take zquil. I average 3-4hours sleep a night without it. It knocks me out and I STAY out. Problem is I cant take it nightly so I take it mon thru wed, off thur and fri, then just sleep when I can on the weekends. Good luck, insomnia is no joke.

I don't sleep great, I wake a lot, when I was younger I had a bad addiction to needing Xanax to sleep, I would drop like 4 -6 blues a night, I think that = 4-6 mgs if I remember correctly, eat half the fridge, not sure why but everything just taste fantastic, then lay down and pass out until morning. I wouldn't remember shit the next day either. I did that for about 8 months and spent a fortune. When I finally decided to stop I didn't sleep for two weeks and man did I feel like shit. So yeah definitely don't want to go the Xanax route.

My PTSD is bad bad, so I need sleep drugs, wear earplugs, and have a white noise generator.

Trazadone is prescribed, as is non additive.

Downside, its technically an antidepressant, and mucks with brain chemistry.

But at least now I actually get rem sleep.

During my last sleep study, in 3 days, the longest I was in rem sleep was for 2 minutes.

Yea I have to take more than a gram a xanax to actually put me to sleep so that's why I'm looking for an alternative med. The xanax I need for anxiety and if I run out early the doc won't give me anymore

I have a list of scripts for my PTSD and so called PTSD sleep insomnia so big that you'd shit yourself. Wish I could take a pic and post my cabinets bro. Angry meds, sleep meds, calm the fuck down meds, be mellow and slobber on yourself meds... all to stop seeing what I see and I still wake up screaming and fighting. Went to bed at 2am, up at 4am this morning... I can go to sleep earlier, but I always wake up a lot. Sheer exhaustion makes me sleep for at least two hours... there is no sleep.

I really don't want a prescription but it's far more unhealthy on your body to not sleep than it is being addicted to sleep medications

trust me, sleep deprivation is not a path you wanna go down. Tooks me years and years to get over it.

The sleep study folks told me I was lucky to be alive.

What I have that makes me sleepy is lorazepam. It's mainly for anxiety but puts you at ease and for some can knock em out good

Trazadone and ambien work very well for me and my wife...but ambient eventually started giving me weird day-time side effects and I'm not sure but I'm convinced that one night I slept walked and literally ate my cabinets BARE and the majority of the meals left in my fridge. So I stick to trazadone now it's not as effective as ambien but it works wonders 5-6 nights a week.
