Serving the troops challenge

During the holidays I especially reflect on the troops mainly because I have been in a desert or deployed during a lot of the holidays throughout my career. I know this AR family for the most part is as giving to others. So what I would like to do is challenge you guys to get a prepaid box from the post office and you can ship this to any troop serving overseas for a flat rate of $12.95 or so. I cannot tell you how much crystal light powders or a letter or little Debbie cakes mean to you when you are over there, these are just little things we pass by 10 times a day a the grocery or convenience store, and they are just little creature comforts you just don't see or get when you are serving overseas. Monster energy drinks is what I most missed and my wife religiously would send the blue ones to me because all I could get were green. lol seems so simple but yet it kept me driving forward to coming home. Believe it or not there are troops that don't get care packages from family, its sad but to see someone get one totally unexpected just brings a tear to your eye, or when you get one and there is 15 people crowded around to watch you open to see your goodies, it is just something that cant be explained unless you have been there.

So my challenge to you is to find a soldier, airmen, marine, or seaman an brighten their holiday away from their family, serving to keep us a free and safe nation, and world. I guess for our international brothers there may be a program set up for them as well. I think one of the biggest ones in America is anysoldier.com, also local churches do some as well. Hopefully you can find it in your heart's to do this preferably by early December so they are ensured to get it. Keep in mind there are certain things that cannot be shipped, gear, (lol), alcohol, porn, and the rules are posted on the website. Drop a note or just drop a package off and brighten someone Christmas or holiday.

Thanks because coming from a military background it truly is appreciated from the front lines

I also could add if you are close to a military base and need a unit that is local call and ask one of the unit's who they have deployed and how to get something to them.

Awesome idea! I spent thanksgiving, Xmas, and New year's in Afghanistan back in 01 and then again in 02. Care packages meant the world to us! Soap, magazines, snacks, basically anything....Lol. Good thread to start hudd!

ya it really is amazing how something so little like a small funnel that will fit in a water bottle or even a shaker bottle is better than a 100 dollar bill. its crazy or wet wipes for the Turkish trots lol

Awesome idea man. I've done this several times actually. Don't forget not everybody's holidays are so merry and bright. Some don't get that privilege.

my last one was in bagram in 08 man I cant tell you how much God was looking out for me thru my career. I had about 18 deployments in 20 years, and the only one I would trade is Iraq 04-05. I mean I had fun but now that I think back it was terror every fucking day. but I was still a little crazy then. I got married when I got back and calmed wayyyy down.

check out anysoldier.com there are randoms on there I don't know the ones im sending too either that is part of the beauty of it, just a random act of kindness

you would be surprised how man American's in airports see you in uniform and go "what or where are you going" and you say the desert and they say Oh I didn't think we were still over there. Its crazy how disconnected some folks are but I guess I do understand if you don't have family or close friends that are in the military you can overlook it.

I love this idea.

Reminds me of when I used to work for a Record label/distro and this one dude deployed in Afghanistan would order music and we'd hook him up with hundreds of dollars of free stuff.

This is an awesome idea man. It's always good to stop and think about our military overseas that can't spend the holiday with their families. Makes you truly thankful and appreciative for everything we have. It's a great gesture to pay it forward

Awesome thread my friend. Great reminder for everyone to happily serve other.. ESPECIALLY our troops, who are taken for granted IMo
