Breaking news today by the NPC,
Starting in 2016, they will introduce a new men's division "classic physique", which is in between men's physique and bodybuilding, with more emphasis on conditioning, aesthetics, and symmetry with a smaller waist, more muscle mass than men's physique and less than bodybuilding.
Competitors will be posing in spandex trunks, doing mandatory poses
I personally think this is a big breath of fresh air for the sport, and as i see it as a way to get back to the classic look of the 70s and 80s body builders. The sport in general has gone a bit overboard with the extreme freakiness, extended guts, and over the top muscle mass of today's body builders. It's become less appealing to look at and this new division gets back to what bodybuilding is all about in my opinion. Men's physique has also been great for the sport, but for those that want a little more mass, and want to pose this is the perfect division. I myself cannot wait to compete in this division in 2016! This is exactly what I've been waiting for.
