Alcoholic + Muscle question

Hi Dylan

This may be an odd question. I write to you as from watching your videos you seem to have a lot of knowledge about the human body.

I was an alcoholic for about 7 years. I use the term alcoholic because I drank cider / beer EVERY day without fail. Anything from 4 - 12 beers for example. I had no issue stopping drinking I just made a choice with no outside help and I feel better each day. (been 2 months now)

Because of this I have literally 0 muscle mass. I do have a fast metabolism and I do a lot of walking / hiking so I never really gained any weight or a beer belly from this.

I am now just a super skinny guy with no muscle. I have recently joined the gym (i used to work out from 19 - 25) so im not exactly a complete beginner. I am now 32 and I can hardly even bench press the bar with no weights on it. My incline dumbbell bench press I can only manage 7.5kg. I have zero strength what so ever.

So I guess my question is. What exactly has all the years of alcohol done to my my muscles / hormones and is there any way other than to just keep of the booze and keep hitting the gym to fix the damage. IE any supplements I could take like a test booster etc etc. I hope you get the jist of the question I am not to good at wording things. Any advice would be appreciated. sorry for the long email.

as a side note I have recently had a blood test. All results are fine. liver kidneys, thyroid, blood pressure. I have a slightly high white blood cell count but thats it.

Well bro, I'm glad you got over the alcoholism. You just recently joined the gym, and you are starting from scratch. Don't get ahead of yourself worrying about things to speed up the process. It all takes time, but you will gain muscle and strength by training and eating correctly. Diet is the biggest factor here....not supplements. You need the right diet to gain size and strength. I suggest checking out my diet thread to get the help you need in this area https://www.isarms.com/forums/steroids-sarms-information/diet-nutrition-basics-101-a-3314.html

When you got blood work did they check your testosterone levels? Years of alcohol abuse can heavily effect that but as Rick said you're starting from scratch. Patience, consistency and realistic expectations are essential here. Congratulations on the lifestyle change BTW

alcohol does not allow you to grow muscle mass and inhibits any sort of strength gain... there's really nothing i can do for you at this point... you are just going to have to work through this... your diet will play a huge role in this... you need to get your testosterone levels checked and that would help me to decipher what could possibly be going on with you

Do all your basics man. get you some protein, some multi vitamins and dial in your diet . it'll grow again
