What is you're take on asphyxiation training?
Anyone actually practice this?

Cutting off blood flow to the limbs to trap blood in the muscles and also increase lactic acid. The high level of lactic acid stimulates intramuscular receptors that subsequently accelerate the increased secretion of growth hormones from the pituitary gland.

Its funny seeing these things develop. In my opinion the gym is not a lab. There isn't much science that goes into it. I call BS!
 
You mean the dumb Fucks in the gym with the gas masks on? I just laugh at them. Even if it did work, how much would it gain you ? Not enough in my opinion to look like a tool bag.
 
Well in theory it would be bad ass but in practice it sucks. I mean you could get a hypoxia tent to sleep in or just go stay up above elevation. This is why I believe epo exist because it is the true hypoxia inducer. There are ways to step around this like ITPP increases oxygen availability without raising hematocrit levels. Also I find gw works very well for this as well. I am very eager to try sr9009. As for the tourniquet thing... Umm just no. Looks awful and I don't understand it at all.

I cringe when i see that shit... fuck man... seriously?!?! you could not have said it better... im one that goes to the gym and im all business... i don't even look at others or what they are doing, im there to improve and focus on what im doing but even I can't ignore how ridiculous those are... its looks like they wish they were a video game character...

Lol one time a skinny fuckin guy walked in with a black one and wearing all black spandex. I laughed really loud and announced Darth Vader is in the house. Everyone started laughing at the guy. He did one set and left. Fuckin moron hahaha.

Have you tried it before? I've done it with leg extensions and it's brutal. Definitely a different feeling but I haven't done it long term so I can't attest to how effective it is. Gotta try things at least once man lol. I don't normally incorporate it, the one time I tried it was just for the hell of it. I'll say that the pump you do get is insane. I just don't have a need for it in my training at this moment. No need to overcomplicate things in my opinion.

I have never tried it but I remember seeing several videos on youtube but a guy named Lawrence Ballenger (I think) and he swore by it. I would consider doing something like that if I hit a bad plateau but I generally have a few "plateau busters" that I do that get me through them.

I read a study somewhere years ago and decided to give it a try just to see what I thought. One set isn't a big deal so I thought why not. I can get some pretty insane pumps going normally in the gym but when you tie off the muscle being targeted, it's definitely a different feeling. Try it out man so you can make your own judgement. Maybe at the end of your leg day, tie off your quad and do some really light leg extensions till failure. The pump is ridiculous.

A black dude at my gym sometimes wears his "white uniform"........white shoes, white socks, white shorts, white shirt. When he comes in I yell out "waddup whitey" and he always replies, "waddup my n*gga". Im as white as they come so we usually get a few stares.
 
Some people swear by occlusion training. I know a lot of guys use it during a deload because you can use a much lighter load. Apparently it's effective, but until I see studies that are factual and the results are written in stone, I'll just stick to the basics :).
 
The theory may sound good but I think it defies logic. Cutting off circulation just doesn't seem like it could possibly be a good thing.

I know a few others that have tried occlusion training, but I would think the negatives far outweigh the benefits, which I'm sure are extremely minor in the grand scope of things. It just see,s like one of those crazy fad tactics. If it was actually that effective, you'd see the pros out there everywhere doing it, but you don't

I have yet to actually see that in person. There's no way I could keep from laughing

There is logic to that. However it doesn't require a stupid mask. Before deploying to Afghanistan we did runs and ruck marches and had to wear a mouthpiece to keep from mouth breathing just to reduce oxygen intake for high altitude training. It's as simple as that. That mask makes you look like a sickly bubble boy or something. Hypochondriac.
