Tazzocc, Bromocriptine is old school method of reducing prolactin, but it was not the intended use. It functions as anti-Parkinsonian treatment because it is Dopamine antagonist, primary treatment for Parkinson syndrome. It has also been used with mix results for Cocaine withdrawal, alcoholism, premenstrual breast symptoms and neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
So preventing Prolactin is nearly almost just a side effect, it is trying to treat all these other symptoms!
Unfortunately there is long list of really bad side effects making Bromocriptine an fairly undesirable drug such as:
CNS: Headache, depression, anxiety nervousness and confusion.
CV: Orthostatic hypotention, decrease Blood Pressure, bradycardia, dysrythmias, shock and Myocardial infarction (Heart attack)
EENT: Blurrued vision, dyslopia, burning eyes, nasal congestion.
GI: Nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarhea, dy mouth, dry mucous membranes and GI hemorrhage (Intestinal bleeding).
GU: Urinary frequency, retention, diuresis and incontinence.
INTEG: Peripheral edema, pallor, rash on face-hands-arms, alopecia, poor circulation in distal extremities.
META: Hypoglycemia.
MUSCLE: Bromocriptine has also been linked to muscle atrophy, not a desirable result for body builders such as us.
Looking at all the risks, is not a desirable drug any longer and has limited therapeutic uses.
All and all guys? I recommend staying in Pramipexol or Cabergoline. Cabergoline/Dostinex has the least amount of sides and is most effective at decreasing prolactin levels. Is expensive, yes, but is one area I believe we should not cut corners on!!!!
