Experience with cortisone shots ??

Can anyone share their experiences with cortisone shots with me here? I am looking for some input to help me make a the decision to get it or not. I have been having a nagging pain in my lower back for about a year consistently and recently got an MRI which determined I have a herniated disc. I went to a specialist who said my pain is focused in my SI joint.
If anyone has had a cortisone shot especially for SI joint I would really appreciate hearing about how it worked for you.

Also been using mk677 to help with this for 3 months now and I have another 3 month supply already. Should I wait to see if the mk helps enough? Any opinions will help.

Thanks guys!

I had 6 shots over 3 years in my hip due to bursitis.. the last time I went they used ultrasound to guide the needle to the dead on spot!!
All the other shots were just around the area, this time (AND LAST) was dead on the money.....

I will say this.... I suffer from cortisone flair, it happens after the shot and can last 4 days...it fuckin hurts!!!!!

Cortisone flair is where the med actually turns to crystals and it's like broken glass inside the joint..

Most people DONT get it......I do!!

A cortisone flare is merely a reaction of the body to a cortisone injection, particularly when administered for joint pain. However, it may occur in other cases too. It is possible to experience a flare 24-48 hours after the injection has been administered. This happens when the injection needle causes a sort of injury to the area, and results in pain and inflammation of that particular area of the body. Experts say that this can be avoided by using a thinner needle (27 gauge) to administer the injection.

On the other hand, cortisone is likely to crystallize and cause pain around the soft tissue along with the joint lining. This pain is sometimes unbearable and worse than the pain before the shot, by those who have experienced it. Though there are numerous benefits of getting a cortisone injection, some people have had to suffer from a cortisone flare. Elbow, knee or shoulder, this reaction may happen at any location in the body. However, as mentioned earlier, this condition will subside within forty eight hours, and is generally not a cause for concern. In fact, you may resort to certain remedies to temporarily relieve the pain caused by this injection.

I generally believe cortisone shots can cause more problems than they alleviate. They can have their place, but realize cortisone can mask the root problem allowing you to do more damage while it "feels better" as well as damage cartilage in that area causing more issues in the long run. While MK can help and support the healing, I think it's more of a support to proper PT or something along those lines. I am not a doctor or anything, just my opinion.
That's my main concern. I don't want to hurt myself more because I can't feel the pain in the area.

I have had several cortisone shots. I also have several herniated discs and bulging discs. I usually get a shot and then go to the chiropractor if I'm having issues with my back. I would probably continue on with the MK if you were already planning on it

I've gotten about a dozen of them through the years in my shoulders & my lower back, the L4,L5 & S1 region.
If anything at all it gave me temporary relief for about 3 days at the most.

Seems like the majority of ppl agree that it's only a temporary solution. Im going to do another 3 months of Mk at the least cause that's what I have on hand, I'm hoping that will provide more permanent healing

I think cortisone is more appropriate when inflammation is so severe it prevents healing. Are you doing any kind of therapy?
That is what the doctor said as well, and ya I did not for a while and I've been seeing the chiropractor for a long time

Well the point is to not go hard after the shot. And be smart. I get them in my shoulder and elbow all the time and they are great. Wouldnt worry too much about the cartilage part. Dr wont give them close enough together to have problems w that.

The point is to get the shot. Take it easy let it work and then swallow your pride and back off whatever it is u are doing to a manageable level. Make sense?

Ya definitely makes sense. I'm by no means thinking it will be an instant fix and I don't mind taking it easy as long as it helps the problem and doesnt just cover it up.

It will help. All it is, a superpowerful antiflamatory. So if u dont give it a week to work without aggrevating it. Then ur just wasting it

I have had cortisone shot in my shoulders, elbow, neck, back, and they do work well for me, but as PHURIOUS stated you do need to back off and let it the cortisone work even though it going to make you feel better.

Food for thought... I have an inversion table (ya the cheesy TV commercial TEETER) and it really has help my back & neck to hang upside down and get the pressure off my back and neck. I have had it 15 years and use it almost daily. I think it really helps with herniated discs.

I have an inversion table too but every time I use it, I feel better directly after but then the next day the pain is really bad.

That Sucks .. Mine always feels better and my L4-5 disc and C5-6 & 6-7 are JUNK. Getting artificial disc put in neck this fall . Already have one artificial disc in neck and it worked great. So if you ever have to get surgery don't do fusion get a artificial disc recover way less and you don't lose all the mobility.

Damn bro that's crazy, Im glad that artificial disc worked out for you, I'm hoping I don't get the that point but with this issue at 25 I can only imagine what it will be like when im 35

My inversion table saved me from surgery... 8 years now since they wanted to do surgery.

Tried the cortisone, first shot was good for 6 months, next shot was good for 1 week.

Try reading the book called "How to Treat Your own Back" by Robin McKenzie. That book is the bible of back problems

I'm going to look into that book, I wish the inversion table was working for me. I read so much good stuff about them before I bought it.

Do you have to teeter model? Some that only allow you to hang totally upside down put to much pressure on your back. The TEETER allow you to partial or total invert so you can basically adjust the amount of pressure by how far you invert. I never go total upside down because that will make my back hurt..

I got it on Amazon not sure what brand it is but it does allow me to adjust the angle. I usually try to go a little more than 45 degrees

If you get the teeter model (which is the best), you also want the boots, not the ankle clamps. Ankle clamps are no bueno for full inversion, actually any inversion.

There is also a technique I learned, where you rock instead of just invert and hang. For that, you have to have the boots, or you'll kill your knees overtime
