Background
Clomid is a drug that was originally designed to stimulate ovulation in women thus increasing their chances of pregnancy. It works by inhibiting estrogen receptors in the body’s hypothalamus through a negative feedback loop. In the bodybuilding world Clomid belongs to a class of drugs known as SERMS( Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator) Clomid has been around for over 50 years and was often ran “on cycle” back in the older days of bodybuilding, however as research and technology has evolved Clomid has found itself as a staple in a steroid cycles PCT (Post Cycle Therapy)
How it works
When running an anabolic steroid cycle the user will experience a variety of hormonal changes and to restore proper balance of these hormones is the main purpose of a PCT. When on cycle the user’s FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) will be extremely low and suppressed thus the body will not be stimulating testosterone production on its own. This is where we want to stimulate the body’s HPTA (Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Testicular Axis) Now here is where Clomid comes into play; It will stimulate these protein hormones called gonadotropins which ultimately increase the before mentioned FSH and LH. Once this is achieved total testosterone levels will continue to rise until the body recovers and begins to produce testosterone naturally on its own, with the ultimate goal of reaching a hormonal homeostasis, or balance.

Side Effects
When used properly Clomid has very little significant side effects. The most common would be a change in emotions and mood. We have to remember there are numerous hormonal changes going on during a post cycle therapy and Clomid is helping the body get back to homeostasis.
Lesser Side Effects
-Blurred Vision
-Mood Swings
-Nausea
- Thyroid function
-Estrogenic sides
-Headaches
-Bloating / Abdominal discomfort
Dosages
Clomid is generally administered as part of a post cycle therapy for a period of at least 4 weeks. The average recommended starting dose is 50mg/day but this can vary from user to user and from cycle to cycle. Some users find a starting point of 100mg/day to work best for them, therefore only general guidelines are advised when using this SERM .Clomid is often tapered down in dosages, and for example a user might start at 50mg for 2 weeks then cut the dosage in half to 25mg for 2 weeks and so on. Dosages exceeding 100mg/day have not shown any significant increase in the mechanisms of Clomid, the important thing is to find what works best for you and remember that the more thorough your PCT is the better off you will be in recovery.
Recap / Benefits
We now understand the importance of Clomid as part of a Post Cycle Therapy from an anabolic steroid cycle. If dosed properly Clomid should be a staple of any PCT and will really help the body return to natural homeostasis. Let’s recap some of the benefits Clomid can give us as part of a PCT:
-Stimulation of FSH and LH thus increasing total testosterone levels
-Increase in sperm health and volume
-Slight anti-estrogenic properties
- Helps restore natural hormonal levels

There is a reason Clomid is a favorite and staple of many as part of a Post Cycle Therapy. However, it is not advised to use longer than is needed. The average Clomid length can range from 3-8 weeks depending on the user and dosages. Just like with any anabolic steroid cycle, blood work should be taken pre, mid, and post cycle to ensure proper hormone levels and recovery in the body.
