Why do cash-advance apps hold funds after repayment sometimes?

Why do some paycheck-advance apps delay access to my money after I repay? I’ve used a couple of budgeting apps, and twice now, after clearing what I borrowed, part of my deposit was locked for days. Is this normal, or just bad timing with my bank?
Also depends on the app’s internal rules. Some treat advances like “pending” until the next cycle, even if you repaid early. They don’t want people re-borrowing instantly, so they build in a short buffer. It’s annoying, but it’s meant to reduce risk for them and keep advances sustainable.

I had the same issue last month. What helped was checking the app’s help pages and community threads. For example, people discussing how to contact dave banking https://dave-banking.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html mentioned similar delays after repayments. It often comes down to transfer speed, bank cut-off times, and whether the app uses instant vs standard ACH. Switching to their in-app account instead of an external bank cut my wait from 3 days to same-day.
