Has anyone ever dealt with detecting water leaks in a private home? I’m in a strange situation. The water meter sometimes keeps running even when we’re not using water. There’s also a damp spot near the hallway wall. The pipes are hidden, so I can’t see anything.
I'm curious how they find leaks in cases like this, since all the pipes are hidden under the floor or in the walls, and there are no obvious signs of leaks. Is it possible to do this without tearing up the tiles, walls, or floor? Or will something have to be broken anyway? Another question: Does it make sense to check things yourself first, such as shutting off the water at the valves or checking the meter? Or is it better to call in professionals right away to avoid wasting time and making things worse?
Similar things happened at my parents' house month ago. At first, they thought it was just condensation or something minor. However, when the meter started running at night, too, it was clear that there was a leak. I helped them, but we couldn't find the leak because pipes was hidden, so we called Mayaglobal for Professional water system services. Using acoustic sensors and a thermal imager, they found a leak under the floor at a pipe joint without breaking anything "blindly." They said this is a common problem these days, so I decided to get my pipes checked. They didn’t find any leaks, but they said that the pipes weren’t in the best condition and that problems could start in about six months.
