Wild physiques of the past

middle aged fat guy said:
Who do you think had a great physique? I had a quick look through youtube and came up with a couple I think were good :)

Sergio Olivia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gt8QHgw83eE

Levrone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0ZSMo7q1I8

Lee Priest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5hManWddv8

I always liked the v taper guys, like steve reeves, vince gironda, dave draper, serge nubret, frank zane. Then when the "big as possible" trend came along, I did not keep up with it anymore. There was a guy I had trained with named Boyer Coe. He was from lake chas LA, and when he was told what his gear regimen would have to be he just quit. I think dave draper quit for the same reason. He was a 200 deca 250 sus guy and did not want to take it any further so he quit.

I'm a definite fan of the old days. I just don't think you can beat the physiques from back then. They had great proportion and balance. I would love to see that come back into bodybuilding, I'm just not a fan of the mass monsters of today. Don't get me wrong I respect them and admire what they achieve, I just prefer the look from back then.

Frank Zane, Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, Franco Colombu, and if course Arnold are some of the best physiques ever in my opinion

Flex Wheeler is one of the few more modern BBers that I can say had a sick Physique.

My house is surrounded by sugar cane fields. I suppose by Cajun Land you are talking about Lafayette or a surrounding town? That's where I live.

dude your life sounds like something out of a Charles Dickens Novel...

Arnold of course.

Serge Nubret.

Sergio Oliva.

Lee Haney

Early Ronnie Coleman (before Slin/GH)

Early Flex Wheeler

as far as modern BBers, Kai Greene has the best physique Overall imo, but the Gut is still out of control. He has some minor holes in his build I think, like Traps and forearms, but overall he is the most aesthetic (not counting Dexter Jackson, not a fan of his look though)

I have to agree about Kai if I had to choose from the current crop.. Ramy is pretty awesome looking though :)

I like this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi8G92FQMFE of old school Ronnie. It's fucking sad what's happened in general with the guys of today. I wonder how long it's going to be before Ramy cops it also

yeah thats the clip of ronnie when he had Gyno..

Ramy is massive but too blocky for me, i prefer more aesthetics.

check this video out:

This is Ronnie before that vitamin Z aka GH/Slin - he was more natural looking, healthier, trim waist, had superb aesthetics, etc.

That's a classic physique right there.. Ronnie there almost reminds me of the guys of the 60's for some reason

I just got this in the mail earlier

yeah dude I am ALL about that Classic Physique, nothing better.

and Nice man, all these old pics you post are like Gold Nuggets

cheers man.. Viator was pure badass IMO. I had an old VHS tape of an Olympia where he looked absolutely insane but I no longer have it. Theres a shitty youtube clip of him in that show, but the quality is terrible and doesn't do him justice

Haha it is actually worse then what it sounds like. I have so many homes I dont know which one to call home. Add 5 sons who are all way bigger and smarter than I am and things get interesting. The cajuns love us but seem a little concerned about us..lol. Boyer Coe was so little I thought he was a dwarf...but he did work really hard. Way harder than me. His heavy duty workout would kill most of us. And by the way..he doesn't wear his wig anymore!!!

yeah hes pretty jacked

Boyer maybe could have done great things, but he was just too small. When they would have contests for men under 5'7 or so he would always win those. If he could have taken the same body and got over 5'10 he would have been awesome. If he were 6ft with that body he could have gone for mr o I think. He trained similar to mike mentzer. Very heavy, very intense. I just never had it in me to push that hard. I never was good at breaking thru plateaus, and these types of guys never acknowledge plateaus. It becomes a mental issue. One year ago this month another great legend died. His name was Harold Poole. He was the first person that I had ever seen who was big and ripped at the same time. RIP bro
